Thayan Invasion of Selgaunt
No one knows why the Thayans have invaded Selgaunt. Perhaps it is because Selgaunt is the richest city in Sembia and is a major port for the Sea of Fallen Stars. Perhaps the Thayans are returning to their conquering ways, no longer content to merely sell their magic goods and spy on their neighbours. They have been relatively quiet for awhile and all that wealth and power and information they have been amassing all these years must surely have been for some sinister purpose....perhaps the invasion of Selgaunt is just the foothold they need to wage war across Faerun. Only time will tell.

The following areas are now under Thayan control: Chancelgaunt Quarter West, Chancelgaunt Quarter East, Kozakura District, Shipwright Lanes, the beach, all areas outside the south wall of the city.

The following areas are still being bombarded by catapult and cannon: Kozakura District, Dragon's Quay, Inner Harbour, Arkhen Quay

The Black Knights have quickly set up barricades around these areas of the city but there is no telling how long they will hold the line against the Thayans.
The Thayan fleet have now secured their blockade of Selgaunt, preventing all travel into or out of the city via the water. There are rumours of ships going around the blockade and landing north of the River Arkhen.
There is word of Thayan archers lining the battlements in the south of the city as well, firing at anything inside or outside of the walls. Thayan soldiers have begun rushing into the city from their landing on the beach.

It is now Highsun in the year 1372....
an excerpt from the Selgaunt Herald
Two loud explosions were heard throughout the city yesterday afternoon, followed by thick columns of smoke rising above Dragon's Quay. Citizens rushing to the area found that the Reliant and the Excelsior had been torn asunder by the terrible explosions! The surviving sailors and the two Captains tended to their dead and wounded in the Temple of Istishia and offered a reward of 1,000 fivestars to whoever could help them track down the perpetrators of the evil deed. All they know for sure is that their powderkegs were detonated in the cargo holds of their ships. We salute the men of the Sembian Navy and share in their loss.

We've got 4 new ADM's! A warm welcome to Electryc, Incitatus, Zweanslord, and Aeterna Doloris.

an excerpt from the Selgaunt Herald
The Tower of Thay has been closed to the public for weeks now and is undergoing rennovations according to a sign posted outside. Residents of the Chancelgaunt Quarter have reported seeing strange lights at the top of the tower at night.

I've added a bunch of new areas in the last week, including outer city walls, a beautiful beach, and Chou's Tomb.

an excerpt from the Selgaunt Herald
The funeral of Min Chou, one of the wealthier merchants from the Kozakura District, was held yesterday in the Selgaunt Cemetary. He was well respected for his business acumen and friendly nature but few attended the burial aside from immediate family - apparently there were rumours that Chou was cursed by an evil Wujen for a lost shipment.

We have a new ADM in town - Zer00! Welcome to the team!
There was a terrible fire in Chancelgaunt Quarter a couple of weeks ago and the Webber Estate was burned to the ground. The Black Knights suspect it was arson but have no leads as of yet.
Rumours abound of werewolves, undead, and yuan-ti in and around the city....it seems the streets have become a little more dangerous, especially at night.
(May.3/04)
Selgaunt is now running with patch 1.62 and the latest ALFA haks. If you notice anything wierd (trees floating in the air, minotaurs gettin' it on with gnomes in the Black Stag, etc) please let me know. Thanks.
(Mar.30/04)
The Circus was in town over the weekend! Thanks to Nyarlathotep for running a great show and thanks to everyone who came out to watch the spectacle and get caught up in some of the intrigue. Shame on you if you missed it, but here's just a taste of it. (See 'Circus' in Gallery)

I just got back from an amazing two weeks vacation in Scotland and I'm looking forwards to getting back into the thick of things in Selgaunt. Thanks to our ADMs for keeping things running smoothly while I was gone. I'm just catching up with all the plots and messages right now but be on the lookout for exciting new changes, monsters, quests, and adventures in the near future!
(Mar.15/04)
We have 3 new ADM's! Please welcome Hakkman (Euro time), Trebor (EST), and Nyarlathotep (EST) to the team! We're now maxxed out with a grand total of 5 ADMs! Look forwards to a lot more DM interaction in the future.

(Feb.20/04)
The Obsidian Blades Guildhall is now complete. Aspiring rogues, thieves, and other nefarious characters now have a safe haven to plan, plot, and purchase their tools of the trade.
Arena Duels - Selgaunt's first Arena Duels was truly a spectacle to behold. Plenty of food and drink was provided by the House of Webber and the coins and blood of the participants filled the arena. Here are the results!
Cockfight - Razor Red vs Bucocky the Magnificent - Razor Red
Bear Baiting - Black bear vs 3 mongrels - Black Bear
Urrlak vs Theda Asen - Urrlak
Kage vs Sergeant of the Black Knights - Kage
Franin vs a Grey Render - Franin
Franin vs Captain Miradorn Naraithas - Captain Naraithas
Congratulations to all the participants who fought with courage and bravery. They were all very close fights and it was a lot of fun! We'll definitely do this again some time.
(Feb.16/04)
The Tower of Thay has been completed! The Red Wizards have opened the doors to the public and will soon be offering an array of magical goods and services.
A Succubus left a bloody wake through the streets of the city last week - intrepid adventurers tracked down the demon to the Temple of Milil and slew her.
A Scrimshaw Trader has set up shop in Selgar's Market and is now accepting scrimshaw shipments from Icewind Dale.
Strange orange lights have been spotted in the farmer's fields to the west of the city.
(Feb.9/04)
We're now connected to Shadowdale and Northern Cormyr. Look for upcoming cross-server quests! A Drow Outpost has been discovered and destroyed, just north of the Selgaunt Cemetary. The haunted mansion in the Hills of Rauthauvyr has been razed as well. New dyes are available from various merchants in the city so you can now customize the look of your clothing, robes, and armor. Construction of the Tower of Thay in the Chancelgaunt Quarter has recently been completed. There are more rumours of elves within the city and there is a memorial service at the Webber Estate this Thursday, Jan.29/04 at 9pm EST.

ALFA down for maintenance until Jan.14/04
ALFA is currently down while we upgrade to HotU, set up the new vault, and upgrade to the latest patch and ACR. So for the next week (until Jan.14 or thereabouts), Selgaunt will be allowing local characters. Bring in your favorite character or roll up a new one and explore Selgaunt. On Jan.14 we'll be back to the vault (server characters only) and server characters will be restored to their status as of Jan.1st.

Selgaunt has a new ADM: Aether
Well, ALFA went through a bit of a meltdown over the holidays but it's still alive and we're still here. On the plus side, we've got a new ADM! Wee! Her name is Aether and she's going to be doing lots of nasty and evil things in the city. She's been playing pen and paper D&D for years and just blew through HoTU over the holidays so she's ready to cause havoc with her devious schemes and nasty NPC's. Aether's also a friend of mine so be nice to her or I'll sick the cows from hell on ya. :)
On behalf of Krbang, myself, and all Selgauntans, welcome to the team, Aether!
(Jan.05/04)
Temple of Lliira destroyed!
The Temple of Lliira was burnt to the ground last night and the charred body of Joydancer Tane was found in the ruins. Another charred corpse was found as well, possibly elven. Authorities are investigating the matter with due dilligence.
(OOC: The first night of the Evil Bastards campaign went quite well! Thanks to everyone who came out!)
(Dec.19th/03)
Thieves, pirates, and Cyricists, oh my!
The locals in Selgaunt are starting to take root nicely. We've got PC thieves, pirates, a couple of Cyricists, and a few of the noble merchant families have PC's in them as well. If you wish to join in the fun, please send a character background for your new or existing character to Drokkar via a pm in the forums and come on over to Selgaunt!
NEW THURSDAY NIGHT CAMPAIGN
I'll be running a campaign for evil characters every thursday night at 9pm EST. No race or level restrictions. Check the Selgaunt Forums for details.
(Dec.16th/03)
WE'RE LIVE!
On behalf of Brian, Krbang, and myself, welcome to Selgaunt.
WOO HOO! We're live! We're live!
Many thanks to all our beta testers who helped us so much throughout our 2 months of beta - couldn't have done it without you!
We'll have portal connections to The Vast Swamp, The Vale of Lost Voices, and Earthspurs Mountains to start with - more portals to be added later, including a boat to the Pirate Isles when it goes live.
(Dec.10th/03)
We're almost live!
We're all set up and rarin' to go....just waiting for live vault access right now. There's a problem with the live vault server and we're just waiting on a reboot. When that happens (no ETA yet unfortunately), we'll go live. I've extended the Way of the Manticore west of the city and Rauthauvyr's Road north of the city to connect to The Vast Swamp (west) and The Vale of Lost Voices (north). We're also keeping the sea port in Arkhen Quay to the Earthspurs Mountains.
Psst....there have been Sahuagin sightings recently. Are they planning a raid or a full out invasion? Only Time will tell (and I just finished tieing him up, gagging him, and beating the snot out of him, so he won't be talking much). ;)
(Dec.2nd/03)
One week until Selgaunt goes live!
We're slated to go live on December.1st/03 and we're doing final testing, bug fixing, and playtesting. We had a sucessful test adventure on Nov.22nd and everything seemed to go quite well. Thanks to the folks that made it out and to those who didn't, I wave mah private parts at your aunties! ;P Just kidding! If you can make it on to test the place out this week I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

We've got a new ADM.....krbang, and he's in a euro-friendly timezone! (GMT +1)
(Nov.25/03)
We're now at Beta 3!
For the next couple of weeks we'll be play balancing, play testing, and bug fixing. We'll also be working to ensure that we're in compliance with the ALFA guidelines. If you hit any bugs, crashes, or anything just plain wonky, please let me know.
I've recently added a static quest (ask around to find it), and two new areas: A forest area along the road west of the city to Saerloon a cemetary that's north of the city across the River Arkhen. Both areas should be relatively safe during the day but dangerous for a single low level adventurer at night. They're VELY SCALY kids! aaAAAOOOoooooo!
(Count Floyd)

(Nov.17/03)
Construction of the city is complete!
All of the city areas on the map are now built and online. Phew! The last additions were Chancelgaunt Quarter (East and West), Selgar's Market - West, and the West Gate. I'll be adding more areas soon (wilderness areas, interiors, sewers) but for now I'll be concentrating on adding more 'inhabitants' and a few static quests.
(Nov.13/03)
Raven Gardens is now online - it's where the wealthy merchants and nobles of Selgaunt have their large mansions and estates. Raven Gardens South is right smack dab in the middle of the city and many of the homes are on a large hill overlooking the rest of the city. Raven Gardens North is home to more estates, the North Gate of the city, and the Temple of the Dark Sun - a temple of Sune that has recently been 'converted' by the Hulorn to a place of worship to Cyric.
In sharp contrast to the wealth of Raven Gardens is Copper Alleys - a large district in the north west of the city where many of the less fortunate citizens of the city live. Slums, brothels, and other foul dens of depravity are situated here. It is also home to the Arena, where duels and other more brutal displays of combat take place.
(Nov.11/03)
The Kozakura District is now online, just west of Shipwright Lanes. There's been quite a bit of Kara-Tur discussion going on in the forums lately so I figured it was high-time that I got this area built. I've added a weapon shop called Hsiang Lu's that has a bunch of Kara-Tur weapons. I'll be adding shops with Kara-Tur food and clothing in the near future.
(Nov.7/03)
Arkhen Quay is now open, just east of the Hulorn's Ward. There's a Church of Mask, a test portal to the Earthspurs Mountains, and the Green Gauntlet (closed for renovations) - an inn and tavern right near the docks.
There's also a new magic shop open in the Inner Harbour called Arcania with the latest SOU spells, mage weapons, and grenade weapons.
(Nov.4/03)
The Hulorn's Ward and Hunting Garden are now open, just north of the Inner Harbour. The Hunting Garden is reserved for the Hulorn and his guests, but I'm sure the more observant of you can find a way in. Just don't let the Black Knights catch you in there....
(Oct.30/03)
Construction of The Sewers has begun. I know how excited you all are about slogging about in human waste. Well, the long wait is over! Huzzah! Jump right in! The first section is online underneath Dragon's Quay.
(Oct.27/03)
The Lighthouse zone has been created - Look for a boat in the Inner Harbour to take you there but beware....the island may be haunted with undead sailors dredged up from the depths.

We have our first ADM.....Brian! He's already hard at work on some very interesting storylines for Selgaunt which I know you'll enjoy.
(Oct.24/03)
We're now at Beta 2! Installed JAI, created Outer Harbour, and the Black Knights are now defending the common folk of Selgaunt a bit better than they used to. They'll also let you bleed quietly now instead of hacking you until you're off to the morgue, which has also been spruced up a bit. Pity you'll have to die to see it. :) If you're a psychotic mass murderer, like Arianna, you'll find that you can now loot from the fallen body instead of the little bag that used to get left behind.
For the next couple of weeks or so, I'll be rolling out content. That's what beta 2's are all about, after all. So coming soon will be sewers, The Hunting Gardens in the Hulorn's Ward, and a lighthouse, along with some static quests and nasty creatures to fight.(Oct.20/03)
Happy Thanksgiving! (Canada) Stuffed myself on the long weekend but managed to add some new stuff. Shipwright Lanes and Inner Harbour are now built. Added a Temple of Istishia in Shipwright Lanes and a map shop in Dragon's Quay. That means resurrections and a map of the city are now available. The default weather system is now online too. (Oct.14/03)
We now have a beta forum in the ALFA forums! Selgaunt Forums
Check them out for the latest updates to the module, submit bugs and sugs, and discuss anything you want relating to Selgaunt and the surrounding areas.

Latest updates: Commoners walking around town and in the Crow's Nest, thanks to ElChip for itemsgalore, playable instruments, Food is now working properly, new clothier named Sebastian in Dragon's Quay, a bard in the Crow's Nest, Reliant and Excelsior now fully decked out with cannons and ships wheel. Now all they need are thome thailor's. :) (Oct.7/03)
We're at Beta 1 now. The website is finished. I'll update and add to it as content is updated in the module, but framework and starting content is all there. Check out the *NEW* info in Districts and NPC's! Just waiting for access to the server vault right now *sigh*. We're now online with Beta 1. (Oct.2nd/03)
On track for going to Beta 1 by the end of Sept/03.
I've got a couple areas built and installed the latest ACR, world keeper, and Haks in the module. Resting, bleeding, dying, exp. all seem to be working fine. :) Now to flesh out the starting areas and get a portal with Pirate Isles (103) working. (sept.25/03)
