Selgaunt the wealthiest city of Sembia is located at the mouth of the River Arkhen, which empties into the Sea of Fallen Stars. It was originally named Chauncelgaunt but was renamed Selgaunt for a powerful merchant named Selgar who helped the city during the old times.

Sembian history is filled with conflicts between the elves and the humans of Sembia, and there is little love lost between the two. A pronouncement banishing the elves from Sembia is still on the books after 10 years and is used to harass irritating elven travelers. The elves of the Tangled Trees still harass Sembian merchants. It does not bother the Sembians so much that the majority of the elves have gone into Retreat as that the ones that they left behind are now uncontrolled and making trouble.

The city is ruled by the Hulhorn (mayor) of Selgaunt. The position is currently held by Andeth Ilchammar, rumoured to be a madman and responsible for the recent corruption of the city. He has recently 'converted' a temple of Sune to a Church of Cyric. Needless to say, the previous tenants - those still alive anyways - are none too amused. It may be that certain followers of Bane within the city are also displeased with recent developments.

Just to make it interesting, there are Zhents, agents of Thay, and 'legitimate' trading companies fighting over business and trade in the city, as well as competing thieves guilds and the occasional pirate.

This is a city rife with corruption and vice. A den of sin, depravity, and excess. If you are of good and stout heart - watch your back. If you're an evil bastard, on the other hand, you'll probably thrive here. There are even whispers of Drow activity in the area and Duergar are often seen walking the streets.

Population : 169,000 people that rises to more than 202,000 in summer months.
Military and Police : Selgaunt is protected by "The Black Knights" a 9,000 sword strong military unit. The city is also home to Sembia's navy, who have lately been spending a bit more time defending the shipping lanes from pirates.

Despite its bustling activity Selgaunt has only three inns that welcome adventurers:
The Black Stag - Inn and tavern
The Green Gauntlet Inn - Located in the docks area
The Outlook Inn - Located outside the city's walls
